Slow Food Charleston

Supporting the Charleston food community to ensure that food is
Good, Clean, and Fair For All.

Mission

Slow Food is an international organization of more than 80,000 members in over 100 countries, dedicated to protecting the pleasures of the table from the homogenization of modern fast food and life, promoting gastronomic culture, developing taste education, conserving agricultural biodiversity and protecting traditional foods at risk of extinction. Slow Food Charleston is one of more than 200 chapters that comprise Slow Food USA.

In addition to upholding the Slow Food mission of ensuring that food is Good, Clean, and Fair, our Charleston chapter focuses its primary efforts on preserving and sharing our local foods and low-country traditions by:

  1. Defending and advocating policies that promote holistic alternatives to the industrial system.

  2. Raising awareness of culturally significant heritage foods, customs, and recipes, and teaching the next generation how to grow, prepare and share food responsibly.

  3. Connecting people to the land and to one another through local projects, tastings, workshops, and shared meals.

  4. Recognizing and promoting food producers, artisans, purveyors, chefs, and restauranteurs who contribute meaningfully to the quality, authenticity, and sustainability of the food system that feeds us.
